Detail of casework of Italian harpsichord. The jack rail supports (one of which is shown here) and even the ends of the soundboard bridge and nut (wrestplank bridge) end with scrolls. The treble nut scroll is partly obscured here by the front eight foot box slide hand lever. Including the arcades of the key naturals, there are six different moldings on this harpsichord and this adds to the great charm and elegance of the Italian instruments. |
